Moira Lawry and John Della-Torre - Passions CD
Moira Lawry is one of Australia's foremost Celtic Harpists, a recording artist with six albums to her credit, and a qualified music teacher. Through her extended studies into contemporary popular music she has stretched traditional boundaries by showing the great adaptability of the harp. Along the way Moira has journeyed into music as therapy with a healing album "Harp for Mind Body and Spirit", as well as jazz, the music of Turlough O'Carolan, traditional Celtic music and various multicultural styles. Her passions for the Celtic harp have led her to be in demand as a performer and teacher around Australia and overseas, including Japan, Scotland and Ireland ... as artist and instrument merge to bring out the best in one another. "Passions" is the expression of her long and fruitful musical relationship with the classical guitar, while exploring even more challenging styles for the lever harp.
John Della-Torre is one of Australia's leading Classical Guitarists, and is highly regarded as both teacher and performer. Based in Adelaide, he has held teaching positions as Lecturer in Guitar at both the Elder Conservatorium of Music and TAFE. In the realms of performance, one of his great passions apart from solo recitals is to demonstrate the versatility of the guitar, by working in the fields of jazz and contemporary music, and in various ensembles some of which have been recorded by the ABC. More recently he has focused on music composition, and in the 2006 Adelaide Fringe Festival he premiered and performed his original works for solo guitar and guitar duo. One of the compositions, the "Passionata Suite", has since been rearranged by John and Moira for guitar and harp and is featured here on "Passions" along with his new composition "Latino Suite".
